Pool Safety Legislation – a case of when, not if…

Mention pool safety legislation and the first question asked is “But when?”  When will it be passed, when will inspectors be beating down our proverbial door?

Well, the short answer is we don’t know when. What we do know is that the legislation is now in its second draft. What we can also tell you is that it is not a case of ‘if pool safety legislation is passed” but rather “when it is passed” – in simple terms, there’ll be no getting out of it wherever you live. It is our understanding that the Gauteng Municipality will be the first to rollout pool safety legislation and that other provinces will follow their lead and adopt similar, if not the same, safety criteria and non-compliance penalties.

TopStep has the support of some of the key decision makers in municipal circles which means we’ll be able to bring you accurate updates and important announcements as they happen. In the meantime, please click here to download a copy of the second draft of the legislation.

One Response to Pool Safety Legislation – a case of when, not if…

As a new parent I am delighted to hear that South Africa is at last addressing child drowning by bringing in relevant legislation. I covered my pool long before I started a family as so many of my friends and family have toddlers. To the critics out there, these laws are not meant to make your life difficult, they are meant to save young lives. France has one of the best and most sensible pool safety legislations in the world – I just hope South Africa’s will be as effective. Thanks TopStep for this superb resource.
